How to Generate Quality Leads for Your Wood Business Ft. Tall Pine Outfitters
“We’re running into a bottleneck on the tree service side when it comes to quality lead generation trying to get it filtered down to people ready to get the work done. They know what they want, and they’re ready to move forward. All they need is us to be able to show them the way.”
- Miles Lanier
The challenge facing Miles and his business is similar to many others. Generating quality leads to building your business and audience is one of the essential elements to foster growth. One effective way to improve this element is to closely examine your current process and figure out how you could enhance each aspect.
“So I would put you through the Woodpreneur Method sort of framework. It’s mindset, branding, community, and sales. Branding yourself as a family business is very powerful, and the idea of a family-run business is a very attractive thing. People like to support families and people more than we think.
So I would market the fact that you’re a family-run business, and you need to put that on your homepage. The second thing about community is that you have a lot of reviews, so I would market your reviews. When people are inquiring about intake forms or what have you, say, ‘Hey, before you book, check out our five-star reviews.’ It’s almost like you’re conditioning them to check out what other people say about you.”

Maximizing the Efficacy of your Contact Page
A website is one of the first things that many business owners rightfully focus on. However, while any website is generally better than no website, there are many significant and subtle ways to improve your impact. The ‘Contact Us’ page is one of the essential components to have in a functioning business website, and Steve has some tips to help get the most out of that mandatory element.
“If I look at your Contact Us page, I would make the phone number field mandatory. Then I would add a question asking, ‘When are you looking to get this done? Less than a week, a month from now, two months?’ That way, you can prioritize. If you know where people stand, you can get more quality leads for your business.
I do this myself. You can tell if somebody can afford you just by asking a couple of questions. How bad do you want this done? Is this going to come down right now on your house or crash into your car? It boils down to, ‘How bad do you want this done, and what’s the timeframe?’ That’s what you should ask.
In your ongoing marketing, I would continue to market your reviews and have pictures of you, your brother, and your father. In front of trees and in front of your customers. When you take down trees, take some selfies with your customers. Just so people feel like, ‘Oh, I’m part of this. I’m part of Tall Pine Outfitters.’”

If you bring anything to a job site beyond just the tools you need, it should be a cellphone with a decent camera. Taking selfies and photos with your customers is incredibly useful for reviews and making them feel included in the process. When future customers look at a business to work with, they want to see the people involved, so taking 5 minutes for a photo or two will pay itself many times over time.
